Meet Our Tutors
Kaplan Premier's tutors are the foundation of our service.
Having graduated our rigorous training and development program,
they all share the same level of excellence: near-perfect scores
(in the 95th percentile or above), previous instructional
experience, and—most importantly—the ability to create an
interactive one-on-one learning environment based on the
individual needs of each student.
Here are just a few of the tutors who work with Kaplan Premier
students in the New York area. At the onset of any tutoring
program, your Academic Coordinator will conduct our Tutor
Matching Interview to find the best possible tutor for
your child.
Janak S.
Janak has been a tutor with Kaplan Premier since April of 2003. He specializes in SAT and SAT 2 mathematics, as well as ACT mathematics and science reasoning. Janak's background in teaching and tutoring boats many enviable accomplishments. He has taught or tutored both in his native India as well as several colleges and technical schools in the Northern New Jersey area. He holds both a Bachelor and a Masters degree in electronics as well as first class distinction in many industry-standard certifications. Janak is meticulous, and energetic. His ability to establish a working rapport with both students and parents has led him to help many of his students achieve perfect scores on the SAT math section. Many of Janak's students have earned acceptance into prestigious, top tiered universities such as Cornell, Columbia, Syracuse, and Rutgers to name a few. Janak's greatest asset is his tremendous capacity for hard work and his selfless dedication to his students.
Ben M.
After serving as the Director of Logistics for a major corporation for several years, Ben successfully made the transition to tutoring for Kaplan in February 2005. In his capacity as an SAT verbal tutor, Ben specializes in helping students reach their target goals. Ben is detailed, patient, and thorough in his approach to tutoring. He has consistently been able help students achieve 150-200 point increases, if not a perfect score in the verbal section of the SAT. As long as the student is willing to do the work, Ben will help them to achieve the goals they have set for themselves. Ben is also a substitute teacher in the Montvale area school system, and has experience with helping students classified with learning disabilities perform successfully on the SAT. In his spare time, Ben enjoys reading and solving crossword puzzles, which surely contributes to his outstanding talents as a verbal tutor and instructor.
Mona S.
Mona is a native of Queens, NY who has resided in New Jersey for the last three years. Mona began her career in education as a New York City high school teacher. She then served as the executive vice president in charge of sales for a major toy corporation. Mona's strong suit is that she is a strong motivator. She has proven time and time again that she can successfully inspire most students to perform beyond their abilities, while soothing any misgivings those students may have about their ability to do well on the test. Many of Mona's students can attest to her ability to clearly communicate information in a coherent, organized fashion. She places a heavy emphasis on homework and student practice, which she feels is the cornerstone to success on standardized tests. Mona also boasts having students who have been able to achieve impressive score increases on the SAT. Teacher is her first love, and this is reflected in her efforts to help all of her students
succeed.
Sarah U.
One thing that helps Sarah relate so well to students is the fact that she considers herself a lifetime learner. Sarah's educational background consists of time spent studying at both Williams College as well as The New School in New York. Sarah equates learning with joy and achievement, and does her best to relate this mantra to her students. She treats preparing for the SAT as an opportunity to practice discipline and hone individual skill. Aside from ensuring that each student she tutors is able to raise their scores, Sarah believes that the learning process can help the student discover and create richer experiences. Sarah's greatest quality is her ability to nurture and empathize with students. By doing so, she helps the student set a goal and achieve it in an environment that is conducive to raising scores as well confidence. Sarah is that special kind of tutor who focuses on molding the skills as well as the student into equal parts of a greater whole.
