Meet Our Tutors

Kaplan Premier's tutors are the foundation of our service. Having graduated our rigorous training and development program, they all share the same level of excellence: near-perfect scores (in the 95th percentile or above), previous instructional experience, and—most importantly—the ability to create an interactive one-on-one learning environment based on the individual needs of each student.

Here are just a few of the tutors who work with Kaplan Premier students in the Minneapolis area. At the onset of any tutoring program, your Academic Coordinator will conduct our Tutor Matching Interview to find the best possible tutor for your child.

Emily

Subjects Tutored: SAT, ACT, PSAT, SAT Subject Tests: Math, Literature, and Spanish
Teaching/Tutoring Experience: I have always known that I wanted to go into education, so Kaplan has been a perfect fit for me! Outside of Kaplan I have spent a lot time volunteering in inner city public schools and am excited to get my teaching license next year.
Degrees Earned: B.A. in English with a minor in Spanish Studies from the University of Minnesota
Degrees in Progress: Masters of Education at the University of Minnesota
Fun Fact: I spent two months living in Spain last summer!
Hobbies/Passions: I love listening to music—anything from rock to classical—and going to concerts. I also love to read and will read pretty much anything I can get my hands on!
What I enjoy about tutoring with Kaplan Premier: I love being able to work for extended periods of time with students and watching their progression. When they get their scores back, it's amazing to see how far they have come from our first lesson together!

What I enjoy about tutoring with Kaplan Premier: It is a joy working with high school students. Standardized tests are so stressful for them! I love being able to help them see the test as an opportunity, not an obstacle.

Marcus

Subjects Tutored:SAT, ACT, GRE, US History, World History
Teaching/Tutoring Experience: I've been tutoring ACT and SAT since June 2006, and I started GRE tutoring and classroom teaching in June 2007. I have tutored over 25 students total since I started my career at Kaplan.
Hobbies/Passions: I played bass guitar in a band up until very recently; I occasionally DJ at bars and concerts; I also enjoy cooking, singing karaoke, and reading.
Degrees Earned: B.A in American Studies from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities, May 2007. Minors in Humanities and African American Studies.
Fun Fact:: I once helped set up sting operations on my friend for the producers of "What Not to Wear," who were filming her for a future episode.
What I enjoy about tutoring with Kaplan Premier: I like the challenges the job presents, including especially the need to constantly be prepared for any question that might come up. It's definitely not a job you can phone in. It is rewarding to know I am helping others improve their futures and achieve their goals.
Marcus' style of tutoring: A parent recently told the office that "Marcus was an excellent tutor. He was organized and very prepared but had a sense of humor that was an excellent fit with Mitch. Mitch really respected him throughout the tutoring."
