Kaplan Premier's tutors are the foundation of our service.
Having graduated our rigorous training and development program,
they all share the same level of excellence: near-perfect scores
(in the 95th percentile or above), previous instructional
experience, and—most importantly—the ability to create an
interactive one-on-one learning environment based on the
individual needs of each student.
Here are just a few of the tutors who work with Kaplan Premier
students in the Houston area. At the onset of any tutoring
program, your Academic Coordinator will conduct our Tutor
Matching Interview to find the best possible tutor for
your child.

Location: Houston, TX
Subjects Tutored: SAT and PSAT Critical Reading
and Writing, ACT English/Reading/Writing, ISEE Lower Level
English/Reading and Math, ISEE Upper Level English/Reading
Teaching/Tutoring Experience: I have tutored for
4 years with Kaplan. More than 5 years' experience in the special
education field, first as a paraprofessional and as a teacher,
has given me expertise in working with students of all skill
levels. I have also enjoyed tutoring ESL (English as a Second
Language). I currently substitute teach, which helps me expand my
repertoire of strategies for benefiting students of all ages and
abilities.
Degrees Earned: B.A. in Anthropology, with a
minor in Linguistics, University of Texas; M.Ed. in Educational
Psychology/Special Education, University of Houston

Jonathan
Location: Houston, TX
Subjects Tutored: PSAT, SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, AP and SAT Subject exams, and academic tutoring in algebra, geometry, history, Latin, and economics.
Teaching/Tutoring Experience: I have tutored with Kaplan since moving to Houston in 2000. Before arriving in Texas, I spent two years teaching at a high school in Phoenix serving students living in residential treatment centers.
Degrees Earned: B.A. from Loras College in Dubuque, IA, with dual-majors in Philosophy and Classical Studies; M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Houston. I also have studied at the University of St. Thomas and have earned several graduate credit hours in Education from the University of Phoenix.
What I enjoy about tutoring with Kaplan Premier: Too often standardized testing provokes fear and anxiety in students. While I enjoy teaching material that students have either forgotten or never learned, my greatest joy comes from reducing anxiety and seeing the enthusiasm that comes from knowing they can show their own strengths on a test.

Teaching/Tutoring Experience: My tenure with Kaplan began in 2002 as a SAT Verbal tutor. Since then, I have begun working with SAT Math, ACT and ISEE students as well as participating in New Tutor trainings.
Degrees Earned: B.S. in Management, minor in Finance from University of Florida. I will begin graduate studies at the University of St. Thomas' MBA program in January of 2008.
What I enjoy about tutoring with Kaplan Premier: I have been a member of the Kaplan family for this extended time not only because it is so gratifying to see tangible results from the efforts that you put into each lesson, but also for experience of working with such a wide variety of personalities and learning styles. Having to adapt communication techniques to fit each individual student is not only challenging, but it has also translated well into my professional and social life.

What I enjoy about tutoring with Kaplan Premier: I have worked with a wide spectrum of students of varying skill levels and abilities, including those with learning differences.
